You search for your own business and nothing comes up, or you show up for your name but never for "plumber near me". This is one of the most common problems local businesses have, and it usually comes down to a handful of fixable reasons.
1. You don't have a verified Google Business Profile
Without a verified Business Profile you will not appear on Google Maps at all. Go to business.google.com, create or claim your profile, and complete verification. Google may ask for a video or other proof that the business is real.
2. Your profile is missing key information
Pick the most accurate primary category, add every service, set your service areas, and fill in hours, phone and website. Add real photos of your work. A half-finished profile rarely ranks.
3. Your website is new or Google hasn't found it
New sites can take a few weeks to appear. Set up Google Search Console, add your site, and submit your sitemap. This tells Google your pages exist and shows you any errors that stop them from being indexed.
4. Your site has one page for everything
If your website is a single page that lists all your services, Google has little to match a specific search against. Give each main service and each main town its own page with real detail and photos.
5. Your website is blocking Google by accident
Website builders sometimes leave a "discourage search engines" or "noindex" setting on after launch. Check your site settings and Search Console's page indexing report.
6. You have few reviews compared to competitors
Reviews are one of the biggest factors in who shows up on the map. If competitors have 150 reviews and you have 12, ask every customer, every time. A direct review link sent by text works best.
7. Your business details don't match across the web
If your name, address or phone number is different on Yelp, Facebook, Angi and your website, Google trusts your listing less. Make them identical everywhere.
You show up, just not high enough
If you appear when you search your business name but not for general searches, you are indexed but not competitive yet. That is normal, and it is fixed with time and consistent work: more service and area pages, more reviews, more photos, and links from local sites. Most businesses see movement within one to three months of steady effort.
